It’s that time again fellow bloggers, we’re all starting to think about pulling our eyelashes out because Monday is just around the corner and the weekend is coming to a close. What makes it worse is that we have lost an hour in the U of the K; it’s only just gone 10pm but because of daylight savings time the bastards decided to add on an extra hour, so its actually just after 11. I’ve nearly drunk my wine (holycow) and although the local offy is open for another thirty minutes my other half has just decided to tuck himself into bed (and hells no I aint going out in my jammies). There is a lesson to be learned here though kids; always overbuy on the wine.
Anyhoo… before the husband went to bed, we had a ‘song-off’; something we normally do on a Friday or Saturday evening (usually when we have a fully stocked cupboard ;))
This all began a few months back when I challenged my other half to a battle. I put on a song on YouTube and proffered the remote to my ball and chain. He had until the song was finished to input the next song choice (it had to better said song). I was quietly confident for I had a back catalogue of artists within my grasp. It was going well and then he hit go. Free Bird started to play. Fuck! He had me! Could I think of a song to better it, not that night (I blame the wine).
Tonight we resumed the challenge and my first choice was said song (Free Bird). I was interested to know what he would play to better it you see (I was still struggling). He played Led Zeppelin Immigrant Song. Cheating bastard!! That was one of the songs I played before he played thee Skynyrd last time. I responded with Hendrix Voodoo Child (my other half says he’s overrated). What do you think?
So this started me thinking about a challenge to you all out there; THE SONG-OFF!
The Rules:
- I’ll start with three types of genres/styles.
- What song beats the nominators choice? Doesn’t matter if its a cover, its about performance, lyrics and feeling the groove! Name it!
- Nominate 3 fellow bloggers (let them know you’ve challenged them).
- Add the previous song choice so that bloggers can see how it compares to what you’ve picked to beat it.
- Add a fourth genre to the mix (the idea is that the nominee picks three out of the 4 genres to song-off with you) adding to the variety.
Genre 1: Soul
Barry White: My first my last my everything
Beat it! I dare you!
Genre 2: Love Song
Beat it! What you got?
Bon Jovi: Always
Genre 3: Grunge
Nirvana: The Man Who Sold The World
Beat it! Teen spirit isn’t going to top this!
Bonus Genre: Empowered
Tina Turner: Proud Mary
So who do I want to nominate to song-off?
Bitchin’ in the Kitchen – Always love reading this blog! Can’t wait to see your songs of choice to beat mine!
Confessions of an Irish Procrastinator – Funny, insightful and I love a bit of the Irish. Come on, what songs you got?
Working Mum – to be or not to be – Great outlook, some fab posts. Not sure of your love of music but I’d love to know what’s in your locker.
Hoping you all participate! Hope the rules are clear enough!
I hope you don’t mind if I put my oar in and have a go too? It just sounded too much fun not to have a go. You can just send me to coventry if you like.
Genre 1: Soul
Ain’t no stopping us now – McFadden & Whitehead
Genre 2: Love Song
Three times a lady – The Commodores
I can’t do grunge I’m afraid.
But I have a great entry for the Empowered category:
Sisters are Doin’ it for themselves – Aretha Franklin featuring the Eurythmics.
Hope you like.
